The green lighthouse on the Southern Pier is one of the many lighthouses at the Scheveningen Harbour. It helps to navigate fishing boats of different sizes coming into the harbour.

The images aim to reflect group 5`s SoI:  to focus on the photographic genre of Architecture, highlighting its intersectionality with nature.

Panel shows the route from the entrance to the pier… en route we see the vast see and the massive concrete sea breakers that look like a Lego collection of a giant. When we finally reach the pier we realized that it isn’t as solitary as we first thought: it`s bustling with fishermen who are trying their luck and one of them actually manage to catch a sea bass! Finally, we walk back towards the shore, towards the very urban concrete environment, leaving nature behind.

The pier with its lighthouse protruding into the sea intends to symbolize the intersection between architecture and nature. The lighthouse is a sturdy construction, which is totally exposed to the elements, there is nothing that protects it from the wind and the sea. When you look at the pier from afar the only things that sticks out slightly from the horizon is the lighthouse, the pier itself (even the sea breakers) tend to blend in with all the shades of blue and grey of its surrounding. Even the green and white `lines` of the lighthouse line up with the level of the sea – another reminder of how lighthouse blends in with the sea while also providing a guiding light for the boats out there.
